Roger Olson

Roger D. Olson, age 76, of Bird Island, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 with his family by his side. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with Military Honors to follow. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10 until 11 a.m. at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

Roger Dale Olson, the son of Donald and Violet (Johnson) Olson, was born on April 13, 1947 in Frederic, Wisconsin. He attended and graduated from Frederic High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1969, serving our country until 1972. Roger married Ida "Joanne" (Pederson) Olson on July 6, 1978 in Frederic, WI. They lived in Frederic, WI until 1978, Storm Lake, IA until 1980, Brooten, MN until 1983, Redwood Falls until 2006, and then to Bird Island, MN where he passed away. He had various careers over the years from running skidders, logging, trucking, worked at Jenni-O-foods until his retirement in 2008. He was working for REM supporting their clients until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Ida "Joanne" Olson of Bird Island; son, Robert (Karla) Koplin of Morton, MN; daughter, Teresa (Stan) Barklow of Jeffers, MN; 5 grandchildren, Jordan, Mariah, Aidan and Taia Koplin and Dustin Barklow and 1 great-grandchild, Ariat Dale Carpinella; sisters, Renae (Jeff) Jansen of Amery, WI, Ronda (Al) Madsen of Frederic, WI; aunt, Marlys and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
