Mary “Lena” Wersal, 90, of Morgan died on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 4, 2018, from 4 until 8 p.m., with a combined rosary and parish prayer service at 3:30 p.m., all at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Morgan and will continue on Tuesday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at the church.

Mary was born to Joseph and Anna (Reiniger) Sellner on January 14, 1928. She was raised in rural Sleepy Eye attending Country School District 46, Mulligan Township, Brown County and graduated from the St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Sleepy Eye. On April 14, 1948 She married Harold Andrew Wersal at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and lived together on a farm east of Springfield until 1950 and they moved to a farm east of Morgan and in 1972 the family moved to a farm west of Morgan where they made their home until moving into Morgan in 1992.
Mary was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan always willing to help anyone with anything at any moment. Mary was a member of the CCW, Catholic Aid, Elementary School and church volunteer and involved with the Mission Sewing as well. She was very social, hosting many gatherings and loved people. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, visiting, attending church celebrations, sewing and baking. Mary was famous for her apple pies and apple crisps. She would make hundreds of them for family and friends each year as well as her delicious sugar cookies and chicken noodle soup with her homemade noodles. Mary loved to garden and shared her produce with everyone. She made blankets for the children and families at the St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. and she and Harold loved making the many trips there to deliver them for the families in person Mary was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend to all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband, Harold, of 70 years; children Marie Lindquist of St. James, Gerard (Cindy) Wersal of Prior Lake, Joseph (Sharon) Wersal of Winthrop, Rosann (Alan) Plotz of Clements, Gregory (Kristin) Wersal of Morgan; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and another one coming in July; and one brother, Arthur Sellner of Sleepy Eye.
Preceded in death by her mother and father; son, Dennis Wersal; grandson, Nicholas Wersal; son-in-law, Ron Lindquist; 2 sisters, Edith Rosenstengel and Cecilia Hornick
