Joseph Filipek

Joseph Filipek, 75, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery, Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, at the funeral home.

Joseph David Filipek, the son of Joseph and Mary (Hjelter) Filipek, Sr., was born September 21, 1940 in Redwood Falls. He grew up in Redwood Falls and received his formal education here. Joe enlisted in the United States Army on February 18, 1959 and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge on May 29, 1962, Joe returned to Redwood Falls where he was employed by DeKalb for over 25 years.

He is survived by his sister Mary Gabrielson of Honolulu, Hawaii; niece Sue (Mitch) Harbaugh of Incline Village, Nevada; nephew Tom (Liza) Gabrielson of Sunnyvale, California; and grandnieces Mia and Kailee Harbaugh.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
