Howard Lemke, 84, of Morton died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 from Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton. Visitation will be held Friday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Mark’s Crow River Cemetery near New Germany.

Howard Lemke, the son of Franz Jr. and Ida (Latzig) Lemke, was born May 8, 1928 near New Germany. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany. Howard attended elementary school near New Germany and graduated from Central High School near Norwood Young America in 1947.
Howard served the Korean War from 1951 to 1953; after returning to the States, he graduated from Mankato State College in 1954. Howard taught in elementary schools for the next 30 years, retiring in June 1984. He married Lucille (Lothert) Menz in August 1975 and spent many happy years gardening and working alongside Lucille in their yard. Howard also enjoyed a good ball game.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in August 2011; his parents; his brothers Paul and Walter; and his sisters Erna and Hilda.
