Hope Betty Gegner, the daughter of Sophus P. and Olena (Christiansen) Hansen, was born December 4, 1929 in the Redwood Falls Hospital. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. Hope received her elementary education in rural school District 103. She then attended the School of Agriculture University of Minnesota St. Paul campus, graduating there in 1948. It was while attending Ag School that Hope met the love of her life, Harold Gegner.
On July 28, 1948, Hope and Harold were married and they lived on the farm in Paxton Township until just recently. Hope loved sewing, gardening, preserving vegetables, farming, taking care of animals, and working together with her husband and family. She was active in her church and served as a church council member, Sunday school teacher and officer in the WELCA. Hope was a charter member of Friends of Gilfillan and loved to travel with the family. Hope was a great fisher person and enjoyed many summers at their trailer on the lake near Perham. She loved her family, grandkids and great-grandkids – and got along with everyone she met.
Hope is survived by her husband Harold; children Lance (Karen) Gegner of Belview, Christine (Bill) Schwandt of Morton, and Dan (Angie) Gegner of Redwood Falls; grandchildren Lavender Boyles, Tyson Schwandt, Feather Tankersley, Matthew Gegner, Amber Gegner, Jodie Roeder, Sarah Kazmierczak, and Jamie Gegner; great-grandchildren Cebada, Lexa, Kira, Latricia, Amelia, Charlotte, Joseph, and Roland; and great-great-granddaughter Octavia.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sophus and Olena; and her grandsons Michael and Jared Gegner.
Blessed be her memory.
