Helen was born on February 17, 1932 in Mulligan Township, Brown County, MN at the home of her parents, Henry and Minnie (Finstad) Wojahn. She graduated from Comfrey High School in 1949 and worked at various jobs in Sleepy Eye before she and Robert Schroeder eloped and were married on August 18, 1951 in New Richmond, MN. She worked at Becker's Super Valu, Control Data and then as a bookkeeper for her husband when he started his own business, Bob's Electric Service, working at that until he retired around 1993.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially playing all kinds of card games and fixing puzzles. Over the years she enjoyed many activities including collecting postcards, stamps, going to garage sales and auctions, gardening, sewing quilts for her family and sewing over 200 wheelchair and walker bags for the DAV in New Ulm and she volunteered for many years at the New Ulm Treasure Haus thrift store and she and Bob delivered Meals on Wheels in Morgan.
Helen and Bob enjoyed many winters in Arizona where she was active in many things including ceramics, playing pool, painting and hiking in the mountains. Going to Arizona was something she truly enjoyed and missed once medical issues kept them in Minnesota.
For 12 years Helen battled with a disease called M.D.S. and the oncology team at the Allina Clinic in New Ulm became a second family to her. She was so thankful for their wonderful, compassionate care over the years.
In March of 2024 Helen moved into Gil-Mor Haven assisted living where she enjoyed the caring staff and activities that kept her busy. In November of that same year, she made the decision to go on hospice care once her treatments were no longer effective and she entered Gil-Mor Nursing Home, where she was taken care of by even more caring staff members. She was grateful for everything that was done for her.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert in 2023; a stillborn daughter, Peggy in 1966; brothers, Carl, Raymond, Elmo and Harry Wojahn; sisters-in-law, Esther, Avis and Emy Wojahn and brother-in-law, Lyndon Skolberg.
She is survived by her daughters, Barb (Steve) Reinhart of Lafayette, Karen (Tom) Borth of Fairfax, and Sue (Bob) Gewerth of Morgan; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Wojahn; sisters, Arlene Skolberg, Myra (Rodney) Damm, Luella (Jerry) Peterson and sister-in-law, Ruth Wojahn.
Blessed be her memory.
