Gerald "Bud" "Smitty" Smith

Gerald “Bud” “Smitty” Smith, 76, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 25, from noon until 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gerald George Smith, the son of Grant and Bessie (Whittet) Smith, was born July 3, 1940 in Redwood Falls. He grew up in rural North Redwood and received his formal education in District 8 rural school and Redwood Falls High School. Bud was a truck driver and dispatcher, most recently for Reich & Schefus Trucking. He resided in Mankato, McGregor, and Redwood Falls. Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his special friend, Mary Pederson, her son Jeremy Geller and his family all of Redwood Falls; sons Jim, John, and Jeff Smith, all of Redwood Falls, and Galen Smith of St. Peter; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Janette (Knud) Basballe of Morgan, and Dorothy (Warren) Maurer of Brandon, South Dakota; and mother Bessie Smith of Redwood Falls. Bud was preceded in death by his father, Grant.
