Georgette Ann Serbus, the daughter of George and Betty (Peters) Wilda, was born June 13, 1947 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She grew up in rural Rice Lake and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1965. Following graduation, Georgette moved to Minneapolis where she was employed with Gambles.
On April 12, 1969, Georgette married Gordon “Gordy” Serbus at Cumberland, Wisconsin and they made their home near Bechyn, Minnesota. Georgette was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, where she taught catechism. She was later a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and regularly attended services at St. John Catholic Church in Morton. Georgette belonged to a bowling league in Olivia in her earlier years. She enjoyed reading, watching cooking shows and doing a daily crossword puzzle. In 1986, after the kids were grown, Georgette began working at Wood Dale Nursing Home, retiring in 2006.
Georgette treasured time with her grandchildren, Austin and Jessica. They enjoyed sharing the simple things in life – conversation, playing games and enjoying good laughs. Georgette also enjoyed taking care of her grandpuppies. She never missed a coffee date or adventure with her best friends, Mary Sullivan and Betty Malecek. Georgette also cherished her phone conversations with her Wisconsin sisters as well as the times they could be together in person. Even if they weren’t close in distance, they were always close at heart.
She is survived by her husband Gordy Serbus of Redwood Falls; children Chad Serbus of Redwood Falls, Kelli (Jeff) Barber of Morton, Craig Serbus (girlfriend Tammy Freese) of Redwood Falls, and Paul Zaid of Redwood Falls; grandchildren Austin and Jessica Barber; sisters Carol Schaar and Virg Funk both of Frederic, Wisconsin, and Shirley Schaar of Siren, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgette was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers-in-law Harry Schaar and Danny Schaar.
Everyone will remember her smile and infectious laughter. Blessed be her memory.
