Florence Theresa Koll, the daughter of George and Eleanor (Schmidt) Gewerth, was born January 8, 1924 in Sherman Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm in Sherman Township and received her formal education at the nearby country school.
On May 22, 1946, Florence married Edmund N. Koll at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The couple settled on a farm in rural Morgan where they began raising their family. In the early 1950s they moved to the Koll family farm where they farmed. In 1985, Florence and Edmund moved into Morgan; Edmund passed away in 1996. Florence continued to live in Morgan until moving to Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls in 2006. She relocated to Wood Dale Nursing Home this past January.
Florence was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also employed as an assistant cook at St. Michael’s School for 21 years; she retired in 1989. Florence was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society. She volunteered at Gil-Mor Manor and enjoyed calling BINGO for the residents. Florence also delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered in many other capacities; she preferred to be the “worker bee” behind the scenes. Florence enjoyed gardening – both flowers and vegetables, playing BINGO and cards – especially Nickels, and doing puzzles. She loved visiting with family and friends and, above all, keeping up with the news of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her children JoAnn (Marvin) Ehrler of Coon Rapids, Gwendolyn (Janard) Law of Coon Rapids, Debra (Chuck) Okins of Redwood Falls, Renee (Don) Kodet of Morton, and Randal (Mary) Koll of Belle Plaine; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Eleanor Sturm of Brooklyn Center and Herbert (Geri) Gewerth of Fairmont; in-laws Florence Gewerth, Leonard Welter, Mary Lou Mathiowetz, Hazel Koll, Dorothy Kalkhoff, Delores Rothmeier, Jerome Koll and LeRoy Koll; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund on January 25, 1996; sister Mary Welter; brother Lloyd Gewerth; and several nieces and nephews.
Blessed be her memory.
