Dorothy L. Fixsen, 89, of rural Wabasso died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 until 10:30 a.m.

Dorothy Lucille Fixsen, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Luckhardt) Schmidt, was born October 5, 1922 in Springfield. She was baptized October 29, 1922 by Pastor Martin Pfotenhauer in Zion Lutheran Church, Springfield. Dorothy was confirmed in the faith on September 13, 1936 by Pastor Herbert Kotke in Zion Lutheran Church. Dorothy graduated from Springfield High School in 1940. Upon graduation she continued her education and graduated from Mankato State Teachers College in 1942, after which she taught in various rural schools in Brown and Redwood counties, the last of which was the upper grades at Seaforth school.
On August 24, 1950, Dorothy married Clarence Fixsen. She continued teaching another year at Seaforth and since that time has been a homemaker, wife, and mother. Dorothy taught Sunday school at Zion in Springfield and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Seaforth; she also taught Release Time classes and vacation Bible school at St. John’s in Redwood Falls. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid organizations, serving as an officer in various capacities. She and Clarence together enjoyed serving on the Visiting Committee of the church, calling on the sick and shut-ins. Dorothy’s church, family, and home were important to her. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, yard work, cooking and canning.
Dorothy is survived by her children Robert (Barbara) Fixsen of Wabasso, and Kaye Fixsen of Wabasso; grandchildren Daniel Fixsen, Jason (Kelli) Fixsen, Sarah Fixsen (fiancé Dustin Wolforth), Jessica Klingler, Kyle (Faraz) Klingler, and Angela Franzen; great-grandchildren Caleb, Gavin, and Kasen Fixsen, and Kavon Klingler; and a brother-in-law Don Friedrich of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; a brother Donald Schmidt; and a sister Betty Friedrich.
