Donald D. Christensen, 88, of Redwood Falls died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Redwood Area Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012 from Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Morgan with burial to follow in Crestlawn Gardens, rural Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 30, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue on Monday at the church for one hour prior to services.

Donald Duane Christensen, the son of Nels and Emma (Johnson) Christensen, was born August 23, 1924 in Redwood Township, Redwood County. He was raised on a farm in Redwood Township. Don received his formal education at the nearby country school and completed his education through 10th grade at Wabasso High School.

On August 25, 1946, Don married Lucille Housman at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Flora Township, Renville County. The couple began farming in Vale Township, Redwood County, then moved to Waterbury Township, southwest of Wabasso. In 1951, they moved to a Gilfillan farm in Paxton Township and in 1956 to a Gilfillan farm in Three Lakes Township. Don farmed in Paxton Township until retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, Don continued to help his son, Larry, with farm work. He and Lucille also enjoyed traveling around the country, visiting family and friends. They moved to Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls this past May. Don was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served on the church council and the cemetery board.

He is survived by his wife Lucille of Redwood Falls; and children Barbara (Terry) Korman of Eagan, Sharon (Donald) Christianson of Greenbush, Janice (David) Heibel of Minnetrista, Christine (Lee) Peterson of Chaska, Dale (Cindy) Christensen of Littleton, Colorado, Larry (Sue) Christensen of Morgan, and Joel (Laura) Christensen of Katy, Texas. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters Alice (George) Dresow of Redwood Falls, and Lois Pierson of St. Paul; and sisters-in-law Arlene Christensen of Redwood Falls, and Elaine Christensen of Prior Lake. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law Julius (Helen), Norman (Hilda), Edward (Thelma) Jens, and William; and brother-in-law Richard Pierson.
