Born on October 17, 1931, Charlie lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a deep love for family, friends, and his work.
For fifty years, Charlie devoted himself to the Diesel Implement Dealership with Ludewig Brothers, contributing greatly to the local economy and becoming a respected leader in the agricultural community until his retirement in 1996. His work ethics reflected his commitment and perseverance, traits he instilled in everyone around him.
Charlie was not only recognized for his professional achievements but also adored for his warm personality and hospitality. He was famous for his sauerkraut dinners, which became a cherished tradition among family and friends, where laughter and stories flowed as freely as the delicious food he lovingly prepared.
A proud veteran of the Army, Charlie carried the values of service and duty throughout his life. He truly embodied the spirit of community, often participating in local events as a Farm Fest Enthusiast, sharing his joy for farming and machinery restoration with those around him.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his surviving family; his sister, Adeline Braulick of Sleepy Eye, and sister-in-law, Marietta Ludewig of Sleepy Eye; many nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlys, who passed away in 2024, and by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Ben (Alvina), Matt (Verna), Felix (Lilian), Cy (Judy), Fritz (Judy), David, and Leonard (Sally). Brother-in-law, Allan (spouse Mary Jane) Hammerschmidt.
His life was rich with experiences, friendships, and the simple joys of life.
Charlie Ludewig’s legacy will endure not only in the many lives he touched but also in the warmth of every family gathering, the laughter shared over sauerkraut dinners, and the spirit of service and dedication he inspired in others. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and forever remembered in their hearts.
May he rest in peace.
