Catherine Ann Sindelir, the daughter of Glennie Hill Squibb and Elma Esta (Moulsby) Squibb, was born October 20, 1919 in Rockwell City, Iowa. When she was a very young child, the Squibb family moved to a farm in Beaver Falls Township, Renville County where Catherine grew up. She received her elementary education in the Birch Coulee country school and graduated as Valedictorian with her Morton High School class. After she earned her teacher’s training diploma, Catherine taught in Renville County District 3 rural school. She later enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served our country during World War II, both with the Coast Guard and the U.S.O. Catherine felt that her service would help the troops – and one special young man in particular – return home from Europe.
In 1944, Catherine married Joseph Steven Wencel Sindelir and they made their home on the farm across the road from her childhood home. Catherine was a homemaker, wife and mother. Following the death of her husband in November 1966, she began her employment at the Morton Public School where she was secretary to the superintendent for 20 years. Catherine was a member of the Morton Methodist Church; she served as Sunday school superintendent for many years and was also quite active in the ladies aid.
She is survived by her children Jo Ann (Earl) Cory of Ulm, Montana, Catherine Louise Sindelir of Clearlake, and Richard Allen (Julie) Sindelir of Morton. Also surviving are her grandchildren Chris (Lori) Hopp and Doug (Linda) Hopp all of Montana, Danielle (Jarrod) Elmer of Redwood Falls, Erin (David) Henspeter, and Steven (Marissa) Sindelir all of St. Cloud, Joseph (Laurie) Sindelir of Mankato, Jacob (Samantha) Sindelir of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Matthew (Emily) Sindelir of New London, and Joshua (Natane) Sindelir of Rochester; 15 great-grandchildren; and her brother Rodney Squibb of Newport News, West Virginia. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband; sons Stephen, and Joel in July 2013; three brothers; and two sisters.
Blessed be her memory.
