Anna Borning, 86, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Martin Luther Care Center in Bloomington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 9 until 11 a.m., at the church.

Anna Lou Borning, the daughter of Fredrick C. and Clara (Lemke) Maasch, was born October 31, 1926 in Vesta Township, Redwood County. She was raised in the Vesta area and received her formal education in the nearby country school and at Echo High School. Anna graduated as valedictorian of Echo High School’s Class of 1944. Following graduation, Anna moved to Minneapolis where she worked for a company located in the Foshay Tower.
On December 12, 1948, Anna married Lester Borning at Vesta and the couple settled in Bemidji for several years. The family moved to Slayton in 1953 and to Thief River Falls in 1962. While living in Thief River Falls, Anna was employed as a secretary for the Thief River Falls School District. She held this position for 24 years, until her retirement in 1986. Anna and Lester moved to Alexandria in 1987 and then to Redwood Falls in 2001. Lester passed away in 2003; Anna continued to live in Redwood Falls until relocating to Bloomington in September 2012 to be closer to her children.
Anna was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her sons and their families.
She is survived by her sons Jeffrey M. (Elaine) Borning of Rosemount, and David F. (Joni) Borning of Burnsville. Also surviving are her granddaughters Steffani (Kevin) Leifeild and their son Bradey; and Angela (Nathan) Johnson and their children Monica and Devon. Anna’s brothers Fred O. Maasch of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, and Orville F. Maasch of Saginaw, Michigan also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester M. Borning; brothers Aldor F. Maasch and Werner F. Maasch; and sisters Laura M. Meyer, Luella M. Rikke, Alvera G. Bruns, Adeline E. Salseth, and Lilly Mae Christensen.
