Alleen Evelyn Berg, the daughter of Thomas and Pearl (Logan) Gilman, was born July 24, 1916 in Beach, North Dakota. She grew up in Beach and graduated from Beach High School in 1934. Following graduation, Alleen worked as a telephone switchboard operator.
On August 23, 1941, Alleen married Len Berg in Glendive, Montana – which was just across the state line from Beach. As Len worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration (which later became the FAA), the family lived in several different towns, including Redwood Falls from 1949 until 1967. They retired from Green Bay, Wisconsin and later moved to Prior Lake.
Alleen was a homemaker; in her spare time she was secretary of Jobs Daughters, a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Redwood Falls Golf Club. She enjoyed gardening and golfing, and was a fastidious housekeeper. Alleen and Len took ballroom dancing with several other Redwood Falls couples and won a trophy for their efforts. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.
Alleen is survived by her children Beverly Jean (David) Otto of Bloomington, and Lee L. (Kathy) Berg of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren Holly (Bradley) Cook of Ada, Michigan, Chrysa Otto (Kent Anderson) of Richfield, and Douglas Otto of Bloomington; and great-grandchildren Alex Cook, Charlotte Cook, Phoebe Otto-Anderson, and Gram Otto-Anderson. Alleen was preceded in death by her husband Len in 2004, and her seven siblings.
Blessed be her memory.
