Janice McGowan

Janice McGowan, age 78, of Morton passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from Living Word Church in Redwood Falls, with burial to follow at Morton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation will continue Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.

Janice Irene McGowan, the daughter of Vernon and Eldora (Uecker) Zaske, was born September 16, 1940 in Fullerton, ND. She received her formal education in Renville, Mn. After High School she attended Minnesota School of Business and beauty college, then opened her own beauty shop in Morton, Mn. Janice later sold her shop to start a family and went on to work in the health care field.

Janice married Robert McGowan on August 13, 1963 in Bethany Lutheran Church, Renville County and they made their home in Morton. Janice was a member of the Living Word Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, having coffee and playing cards with the friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her children Kevin (Paula) McGowan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Russ McGowan of Pipestone, and Dana (Travis) Sheveland of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren Ashley (Jose) Solis and Chase McGowan, Rachelle Schomacker and Jesse McGowan, and Mason and Tycen Sheveland; great-grandchildren Abigail and Amelia Solis and Korie Schomacker; brother Mike (Marie) Zaske of Sauk Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Eldora (Uecker) Zaske; husband Robert "Bob" and brother James Zaske.
